We are at Marcib\u00e1nyi Square, where Haris Park opened its doors in 2019. The spirit of the venue is deeply rooted in its original purpose, as since its construction it has been regarded as a meeting place for Hungary's bourgeois and aristocratic elite. Today, it is one of Budapest's most sought-after event locations, captivating visitors with its elegant park and historic buildings.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Haris Park is an exclusive venue for weddings, family and corporate events, concerts, exhibitions and presentations. Its restaurant, Boho, takes its name from the playful combination of the words bohemian and bourgeois<sup>1<\/sup>. It has become a meeting place for successful entrepreneurs and members of the artistic community\u2014a setting for conversation, networking and inspiration. The name reflects the modern upper-middle class that forms Haris Park's primary audience. The three-pavilion complex was completed in 1884 in the German Neo-Renaissance style, designed by architect Antal Hofhauser. Besides the shooting facilities, the complex included guest rooms, storage areas, pantries, wine cellars, a restaurant and changing rooms. Its most impressive space was the grand ballroom, where Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) once danced<sup>3<\/sup>. The restaurant and casino became regular meeting places for Budapest's aristocratic elite. Count Gyula Andr\u00e1ssy, for example, frequently held discussions there with members of the Liberal Lodge.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">During the 1930s, the building operated as the Castle Restaurant and Caf\u00e9, managed with great success by J\u00f3zsef Figyelmessy<sup>4<\/sup>. In 1932, architect Rezs\u0151 Ray prepared expansion plans, resulting in the addition of a cinema hall, staff accommodation and enlarged upper-floor facilities. During the Second World War, both the tower and the roof suffered severe damage. Due to financial constraints, the roof was rebuilt in a simpler hipped-roof form rather than restoring its original design. From 1951, the building belonged to the Freedom Fighters' Association, where several future world champions and Olympic athletes trained. Later it became the property of the Hungarian Defence Association, which carried out major renovations. It was subsequently transferred to the Budapest Civil Shooting Association, which was unable to operate the property profitably. In 1992, it entered private ownership. Businessman J\u00e1nos Feny\u0151 planned to establish an exclusive gentlemen's club there, but his death prevented the project from being realised. Unable to find a suitable public function for the property, Budapest's 2nd District Municipality put the 1.5-hectare estate up for tender in 2006. The successful bidder was the Haris family. Since the complex had received historic monument protection in 1997, obtaining permits proved challenging, and several civil organisations also opposed the redevelopment. The original vision included an event centre, a restaurant and an 18-unit apartment complex with a wellness centre. Legal disputes delayed the project, followed by the financial crisis of 2008. As a result, the plans were revised, and nearly half of the land was sold for the construction of private homes. The remaining historic buildings were finally restored beginning in 2014, with the main reconstruction taking place between 2016 and 2018. Since its opening, Haris Park has hosted countless prestigious events. Its most spectacular venue is the 320-square-metre Grand Ballroom, featuring an impressive 9-metre<sup>5<\/sup> ceiling height and abundant natural daylight. It can accommodate 170 guests for seated dinners, whether for weddings or corporate events. (Following consultations with local residents, all music and dancing events must conclude by 1:00 a.m..) Maintaining a premium atmosphere is a top priority, which is why the walls are repainted every two to three months. As Haris Park has become a sought-after wedding venue, a charming chapel was also created, providing an intimate setting for ceremonies of approximately 60 guests. The Haris family, of Greek origin, settled in Hungary during the 18th century. Initially active in commerce, the family later expanded into hospitality, the hotel industry and Budapest real estate development<sup>6<\/sup>. The family's patriarch, Gy\u00f6rgy Haris, became one of Hungary's prominent entrepreneurs following the political transition of 1989. He built successful businesses in the automotive sector and the fashion industry, and through his work and international connections introduced brands such as Max Mara and Hugo Boss to Hungary<sup>7<\/sup>. He also continues to oversee one of Budapest's well-known restaurants, Mezzo Music Restaurant. His wife, \u00c9va Haris, envisioned the elegant peacock motifs that have become a defining element of Haris Park's interior design, while also participating in its day-to-day management. Their son, Gerg\u0151 Haris, pursued an international career in the hospitality industry before returning to Hungary to apply his communication and management experience to the operation of Haris Park. His goal has been to establish it as one of the country's leading event venues while continuing the success of the family business.
