wp-block-paragraph\">A yellow, U-shaped manor house with arcaded corridors, elegant white columns and a lush green lawn stretching before it. Its weathered fa\u00e7ade bears the family coat of arms, while an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity surrounds the estate. If these walls could speak, they would tell the story of a settlement whose history dates back to 1484, although it has been known by its present name only since 1900. Quiet streets, the residences of lesser and middle-ranking noble families, and a strong Slovak cultural heritage all contribute to the unique character of the village. The Tahy, Gosztonyi, Doblhoff and K\u00e1lnoki-Bed\u0151 families, prominent members of the Hungarian nobility in the 19th and 20th centuries, left a lasting mark on the village through the manor houses and castles they built. Our next destination takes us to Galgagy\u00f6rk, nestled beside the Galga River at the foot of the Cserh\u00e1t Hills, where we explore the Tahy Manor House.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The story begins in the 17th century, when the Tahy Manor House was constructed. Members of the Tahy family enjoyed great respect, as the head of the family served as the Vice Lord Lieutenant of N\u00f3gr\u00e1d County. This prestigious office brought them into close contact with influential noble families and major landowners, who were frequently entertained here during social gatherings and official events. The manor also served as a venue for county assemblies, making it an important political and social centre of the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Alongside their public responsibilities, the Tahy family was deeply committed to the development of the local community. By around 1815, the manor stood at the heart of an extensive historic park covering several hectares, surrounded by farm buildings, servants' quarters and even a riding track. After a member of the Sturmann family married into the Tahy family, the former carriage entrance was transformed into an elegant salon. The reception hall was adorned with beautiful frescoes, adding even greater splendour to the manor's refined atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The First and Second World Wars also left their mark on these historic walls. During the Second World War, the manor served as a military hospital, where wounded soldiers received medical treatment. Following the nationalisation of the estate, the extensive historic park surrounding the residence was divided into plots and sold. Fortunately, however, this was not the end of the building's story. The former noble residence was given a new public role: it became home to a cultural centre and residential apartments, and later also accommodated the local mayor's office. Between 1994 and 1996, a comprehensive restoration project saved the building from further deterioration, allowing it to regain much of its former splendour.
